Agartala, July 17, 2017: The Tripura Pradesh Congress would conduct dawn-to-dusk strike throughout the state on July 19 protesting against the BJP’s attempt to divide the state and CPM’s ‘mute role’ in this regard.
The decision was taken during a meeting held in Congress Bhawan recently.
A senior leader from Congress said that the Congress had earlier given an ultimatum to the government to withdraw the IPFT’s blockade movement within 24 hours. But the movement is still on.
“The BJP is instigating the IPFT to raise voice for the division of the state. The blockade brought loads of miseries to common people. Even the state government is not taking any step to make the National Highway and railways free from the movement. Protesting against the CPM and BJP’s role in this case, we have decided to call for 12-hour strike in the state,” he said.
The Congress apprehended that there might be a repetition of Manipur’s blockade movement in Tripura prior Assembly polls eyeing the IPFT’s movement.
The Congress has already started process to strengthen its organizations in the grass-root level before the Assembly polls.
The party is hopeful to field candidates in all the 60 Assembly seats.
