Agartala, July 13, 2017: The Congress, Tripura unit on Thursday demanded the National Highway and railways blockade movement that continued for more than 72 hours to be withdrawn in the coming 24 hours or else, the party would hit the streets.
Criticizing the state administration and the Centre for keeping silent on the issue, Congress state Chief, Birajit Sinha said that the National Highway blockade created huge problem in daily life.
“Common people are the most sufferers due to the blockade of the National Highway. Surprisingly, neither the state administration nor the Centre has taken the matter into serious consideration. We demand the agitation should be withdrawn by next 24 hours, otherwise we would launch our movement,” Sinha told media at Congress Bhawan in Agartala.
Like CPM, the Congress also held BJP responsible for instigating the movement.
Recalling the Manipur blockade in November last year that was against bifurcation of districts to create seven new ones, Sinha said that Tripura might have the reflection of Manipur before the Assembly elections citing the recent IPFt’s blockade movement.
“The BJP is planning to repeat in Tripura what they had done in Manipur before elections. But their ill-design will not succeed. The bJP cannot be the alternative of CPM. The next Assembly elections would be held between CPM and Congress only,” Sinha said.
