This wonderful lake palace is a centre of attraction for the people from the state and outside. Only Water-palace in eastern India on the lake Rudrasagaris situated near Melaghar in Sonamura Sub-division of West Tripura district. This picturesque fairy-tale royal palace was the dream castle of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, which was built in 1930 A.D.
It was built by Maharaja as his summer castle, being inspired by the Mughal style of architecture.The palace was built from the idea of famous JagniwasPalace in Pichola Lake at Udaipur, Rajasthan. This castle, a blend of Hindu-Muslim architecture, took nine long years to be completed. It is a fascinating sight to view the reflection of the palace on the placid water of the lake. The lake covers an area of about 5.3 Sq. km, situated about 55 km south of Agartala. The journey on boat from the bank of the lake to the palace is thrilling and adventurous.
The lake is a home to variety of resident as well as migratory birds.Boating facilities is available here. Boating festival is held every year in Rudrasagar in the month of July-August.The tourists can stay at Sagar Mahal Tourist Lodgeand enjoy the view of this wonderful creation of art and architecture.
